Area Police
Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state early analysis show the substance was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a gunman aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
